One Light in the Middle of the Ceiling Isn't Enough
Almost every older bathroom has the same setup: a single light in the centre of the ceiling. Stand at the mirror and your own head blocks it, so your face is in shadow exactly where you need to see.
The other thing we get called for is the three in one units. When the heat lamps go, or the fan stops clearing the mirror, the moisture starts going into the ceiling instead of outside.
Common bathroom lighting jobs for us:
- Adding light at the mirror instead of behind you
- Replacing failed heat lamps and three in one units
- Bathrooms that stay fogged long after a shower
- Old fittings that aren't rated for where they're installed
Bathrooms have zone rules about what can be installed and how close it can sit to a bath or shower, which is worth getting right the first time.

We install vanity and mirror lighting, ceiling lighting, heat lamps and exhaust units, positioned so the light falls on your face rather than the back of your head.
Every fitting is selected for the zone it sits in, because what's allowed above a vanity is different to what's allowed near a shower or over a bath. We handle that side of it so you don't have to think about it.
If the exhaust isn't keeping up, we'll look at that at the same time. It's usually the cheapest thing you can do to stop moisture problems in a bathroom.
What we do:
- Check the layout and the zones before choosing fittings
- Install vanity, mirror and ceiling lighting
- Replace heat lamps and three in one units
- Improve or replace exhaust where it's not coping
- Test everything and certify the work

Frequently Asked Questions
Light coming from beside or in front of the mirror rather than directly above or behind you. Wall lights either side of the mirror, or a fitting mounted above the mirror rather than out in the room, gives you an even light on your face.
Yes. Bathrooms are divided into zones based on distance from water, and each zone limits what can be installed there and what rating the fitting needs. We select fittings to suit the zone they'll sit in.
Yes, and it's one of the more common bathroom jobs we do. We can replace like for like, or split the light, heat and exhaust into separate fittings if you'd rather have better performance from each.
Usually. It's normally an exhaust fan that's undersized, blocked, or venting into the roof space instead of outside. We'll check what's there and tell you whether it needs cleaning, redirecting or replacing.
Yes. Most lighting and exhaust upgrades can be done as a standalone job in a single visit. If you are renovating, get in touch early so we can plan the wiring before the walls close up.
