One Room in the House Is Always Too Hot

There's usually one. The west facing bedroom that holds the heat until midnight, the room at the end of the hall the ducted system never quite reaches, or an extension that was added without cooling.

Portable units and fans move the problem around rather than solving it, and they cost more to run than a split system doing the same job properly.

The situations we're called for:

  • A bedroom or living room that never cools down
  • A room the existing system doesn't reach
  • An older system that's stopped keeping up
  • A new extension, studio or garage conversion with no cooling

The part that catches people out is the switchboard. A split system needs its own circuit, and plenty of older boards around here have no spare capacity left.

Comfortable Rooms, Wired to Handle the Load

We install single and multi head split systems, run the dedicated circuit each unit needs, and check your switchboard has the capacity before anything is ordered.

That check happens first for a reason. Finding out on installation day that the board is full is the main thing that stalls these jobs, and it's easy to avoid.

We'll talk through unit placement with you too, because where the head sits inside and where the compressor sits outside affects how well it works and how much you hear it.

What we do:

  • Check switchboard capacity before the unit is ordered
  • Advise on indoor and outdoor unit placement
  • Install the dedicated circuit and isolator
  • Mount and connect the system
  • Test, commission and certify the work

Most recently he installed a split system air conditioner and did a switchboard upgrade for me, both jobs were done to a really high standard. Neat cabling, everything tested and explained, and the worksite was left spotless when he was finished.

Had Jessie from Class Above Electrical come out to install some new lights and a split system, and couldn’t recommend them enough. Turned up when they said they would, got stuck into it straight away, and left everything spotless after, no mess, no dramas.

Asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • It depends on the size of the unit, how far the indoor and outdoor units sit apart, and whether your switchboard needs work to carry the new circuit. We look at all three before quoting so the price doesn't move later.

  • Yes. Air conditioning draws enough current that it needs a dedicated circuit rather than sharing with power points. That's also why the switchboard needs checking before install, especially on older boards.

  • Sometimes. Older boards with ceramic fuses or no spare ways often do. We check as part of the quote and tell you upfront rather than discovering it on the day. You can read more on our switchboard upgrades page.

  • Either works. Plenty of customers buy their own unit and we install it. If you'd rather we sorted it, tell us the room size and what you want it to do and we'll point you at something suitable rather than oversized.

  • Somewhere with airflow around it, out of full afternoon sun where possible, and away from bedroom windows, yours and the neighbours'. We'll walk the options with you before anything is mounted.
